FC Barcelona took no prisoners against Division 2B side Huesca and marched to an emphatic 4-0 win. Pedro was one of the heroes, but it’s nothing new to see him involved in the scoring when Barça play their debut cup fixtures. Here’s a round-up of trivia that emerged from the game at El Alcoraz.

  • Pedro has scored in Barça’s opening cup ties in 2009/10 (Cultural Leonesa), 2010/11 (Ceuta), 2013/14 (Cartagena) and now 2014/15 (Huesca).
  • It was the Canary Islander’s second goal of the season, and his 16th in the domestic cup. He has also scored 15 times in the Champions League and 53 in La Liga.
  • Ivan Rakitic was Barça’s first scorer in this season’s Copa del Rey with a finely executed free-kick. The opening scorers in previous seasons have been Pedro (2013/14), Villa (2012/13) and Iniesta (2011/12).
  • Pedro and Iniesta hadn’t played together since the 7-0 defeat of Osasuna last season.
  • The latter scored his first goal of the current season on Wednesday night. He hadn’t found the target since last season’s 4-3 win at the Santiago Bernabéu.
  • Rafinha scored his first ever goal for the first team. Curiously, it was not the first time had scored at El Alcoraz, where he featured for Barça B two seasons ago.
  • Edgar Ié made his official first team debut when he came on for Mathieu after 63 minutes. That’s 25 different players that Luis Enrique has used this season.
  • Sergi Samper made the most passes in Huesca. An impressive 95 of his 99 passes found their man.
  • Jérémy Mathieu got Barça’s first yellow card of the cup campaign, his third in all this season.
