Brazil go down to defeat against Colombia (0-1)

Brazil went down to their first defeat in the Copa América in Chile, losing to the only goal of the game to Group rivals Colombia. A strike from defender Jeison Murillo ten minutes before half time was enough to give José Pekerman's side victory in a game in which Barça striker Neymar — who picked up a second yellow card in two games just before the half and will miss Brazil's final group match — was later sent off after the final whistle and therefore could miss the quarter-finals should the 'canarinha' make it through to the knockout stages. Barça full back Dani Alves also played all 90 minutes in the defeat for Dunga's side that means they will have to get a result in their final game of Group C against Venezuela if they are to make it through to the last eight of the tournament.  Colombia, for their part, still have work to do in their final game of the group stage against Peru if they are also to make an appearance in the quarter-finals of this year's Copa América.

Granada defender's goal

All eyes in the Chilean capital of Santiago were on Brazil captain Neymar after his stellar performance in the 2-1 win over Peru in their first game of Group C. However, it was Granada defender Murillo who grabbed the headlines, latching on to a loose ball inside the penalty area to fire the only goal of the game past Brazil keeper Jefferson. It was just reward for Pekerman's team who dominated their opponents in the opening 45 minutes in their search for revenge following their exit from last year's World Cup at the hands of Brazil. Colombia could have made it 2-0 at half time had Manchester United striker Falcao not elected to shoot when he had two team mates free just five minutes before the break.

Second half red cards

Brazil boss Dunga made a change at half time. bringing on Liverpool midfielder Coutinho in place of the disappointing Fred. The 'canarinha' wasted an excellent chance to level things up when Firminho failed to take advantage of a mistake at the back by Colombia. That turned out to be a crucial miss for Brazil as their opponents had the better of the game in the second half, Real Madrid's James spurning the opportunity to put the game beyond Brazil with just 10 minutes to go. Pekerman's side held on for the victory in Group C as tempers were lost in the final minutes, Neymar and Sevilla striker Bacca were both shown red cards after the final whistle after clashing on their way off the field and both could now miss the quarter-finals should their sides make it to the knock out stages. Brazil are now level on three points with Colombia and Venezuela in Group C with the latter still to play their second group game against Peru on Thursday.
