After the win against Rayo, Gerard Piqué stressed the importance of retaking the league lead: "It's good to regain the top spot but the most important is to be first when the season ends. We started the league well, then we suffered a setback and now we're back up." The central defender, author of the second goal of the match, said: "The goal was important because it relaxed the team at the start of the second half. From that moment on the game was open."

Two weeks away from the Clásico, Piqué wanted to focus on the next game: "We play Eibar first, a team that is down, and we need the three points."

Javier Mascherano

"Before beating Granada last week we were four points back, and now we're one up."

"In the last two seasons the league title was decided in the final weeks, so points can be lost at any moment."

"Rayo are an attacking team, and that opens up some space for us that we have to take advantage of."

"It's worth watching Messi play whether or not he scores. Every time he touches the ball you know something's going to happen. He's the only player in the world who has that capacity."

Andrés Iniesta

"Now it's time to rest and prepare for the match against Eibar."

"We have to praise Paco Jémez for the way Rayo play. Although they gave us space when they brought the pressure, they always fight to the end."

"Twelve noon is better than 4.00pm because we train at 11.00am. We want to thank all the people who came to the stadium because there was a good atmosphere for everyone to enjoy."
