Adriano: "Luis Enrique has a lot of character and that's good for us”

"It was quite a fright when they discovered that I had cardiac problems” he said. “A lot of things go through your head" He adds that "Luis Enrique is always on at us, demanding more, and that gives us confidence”

FC Barcelona full-back Adriano Correia gave a press conference after today’s training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. The Brazilian gave the details of the heart-rate problem that kept him sidelined from normal training for several weeks. “It was quite a fright when they discovered that I had cardiac problems” he said. “A lot of things go through your head. In a clinical sense, I knew that I was in good hands. And I have a lot of faith and am thinking about it less and less with each day … I’m feeling fine now. The issue has passed. It could be solved and now I’m back training 100% and looking forward to getting started and enjoying my football.”

On the new first team manager, he commented that "the philosophy has changed a lot under Luis Enrique. He has plenty of character and that’s been good for us.” He has particularly noticed that there is now a much higher focus on fitness issues. “The changes show what kind of boss he is” said Adriano. “He is always on at us, demanding more, and that gives us confidence. Luis Enrique knows the club well, and that’s a good thing too.”

“The year has started well” he continues. “The transitions have been quick and are making the team much better. This season we’re keen to do the best we can do, and that’s play football well.” There is also a lot of competition for all positions in the current squad, which he says “is good for the team, it means we always have to be attentive and at 100% … Everything has changed since the new players arrived, and they have all added to the feeling of desire among us. They have come here because they want to win titles, and that’s good for us all.”

Douglas is a fine addition to the team

Adriano also commented on the signing of his compatriot Douglas Pereira, who he describes as “a great footballer, he’s got plenty of qualities … I wasn’t surprised at all when we signed Douglas. He’s a fine addition to the team, but he will need some time to adapt … We need to talk to him every day to make sure he integrates into the club as quickly as possible.”

The player also confessed that “this summer I received offers to leave Barça, but I have always made it clear that I intend to stay here.”
