Tito Vilanova’s first press conference of the 2013/14 season took place at the Ciutat Esportiva this afternoon. Here’s an overview of what we believe to be the top 10 quotes from the manager’s conference:

1. “Having the chance to manage Barça is memorable. I have never suffered because of it, I am constantly enjoying it.”

2. “Messi is in spectacular shape. He’s had a lot more rest than he’s had [in previous years]. The fact that he played a few matches [this off season] hasn’t affected him [physically], he got sufficient rest.”

3. “I saw Guardiola in New York on a two-day visit, but when I had surgery we didn’t see each other. The one who was sick and the one who was going through a difficult time was me.”

4. “I met with my technical staff in the last two weeks of the season to review our performance. We’re convinced that we must improve.”

5. “I am very, very pleased to have Neymar with us. Will he mesh with Messi on the pitch? They are both excellent players. One is the best player in the world, the best in the history of the sport, and now we brought in someone who is a great player. It won’t be a problem, they will understand each other on the pitch.”

6. “I’m aware that Cesc has received offers, but he wants to stay because he wants to succeed here. Fàbregas knows that he has competition. His goal has always been to succeed here and I’m calm about the situation.”

7. “I’ve known Rubi for years, he will be an asset to the team. In the past I spent a lot of time analysing our rivals, [but with Rubi’s arrival] I will be able to dedicate more time to the team.”

8. “Thiago Silva is one of the options we are looking at to reinforce the team. He’s a player we’ve wanted to sign for years. If it’s not him, then others might come. The goal is to sign a centre back.”

9. “Mascherano has been ideal. He’s adapted to the centre back position and he also can play as a pivot. I hope that he can keep helping us, Barça completed an extraordinary signing when he was brought to the Club.”

10. “I feel bad that Thiago left. I hold him in high regard, I asked him to stay, he knew he had competition. When he was healthy, he played.”
