Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino held a press conference after the 4-1 victory over Valladolid. The Argentine evaluated Barça’s eighth consecutive victory in the league from a couple points of view: “In general, we lacked intensity in the first phase of the first half, they got behind us and we didn’t pressure enough.”

Martino also added: “What happened needs to be corrected because we won’t always be able to fight back ... conceding goals from set pieces is one of our current worries.” Despite the analysis, Martino declared: “I really liked the second half the team put in.”

Scoring goals in different ways

One of the aspects of the match that Martino wanted to highlight was “the diversity with which the team score goals.” With the 4-1 over Valladolid, Barça added to the best league start in the history Club. “I’m always an optimist when it comes to my job, but it’s not easy to find such optimal results. It’s time to enjoy this as the manager of this team,” said Martino.

Players worthy of praise

The manager went on to praise Neymar, who “plays equally well on the right, left and center; his secret lies in how good he is. Neymar’s adaptation allows him to have a large margin of improvement. He has a hierarchy that’s hard to find in players.”

Alexis Sánchez scored two goals and gave one assist against Valladolid. “Alexis doesn’t need me to confirm him because he’s an excellent player,” declared Martino. The manager also had words for Crisitan Tello and Marc Bartra. On the forward, Martino said, “he participated in the team’s best moments. He will continue to grow as a footballer.” On the center back, Martino said: “Bartra is putting in very notable performances and he’s showing a lot of personality. He’s responding to what we want from him.”

Zubizarreta: “Neymar always invents something”

The technical director of the football team said that Neymar “is growing and with patience he will show us everything he’s got.” He added: “He one of those players that always invents something.” Zubizarreta also praised Marc Bartra’s performance: “He played well. He knows how to anticipate and he’s got all the qualities to play as a center back for Barça.”
