A photo of Alexis’s goal fills the front page of sports paper ‘El 9’ this Sunday.  The article adds: “Madrid, six points adrift, leave the Camp Nou in tears”.


SPORT

‘Take that, Madrid! 6 points adrift’. The paper says Barça “show their authority in the league” and praises “Neymar’s great match” and Alexis’s “wonder goal”.


MUNDO DEPORTIVO

The headline ‘Super leader’, together with a photo of the players celebrating Neymar’s goal, occupies the front page of ‘Mundo Deportivo’.  The paper describes Alexis’s goal as “a work of art".


MARCA

‘Fearful, pitiful.  The Madrid paper points the finger of blame firmly at Ancelotti and the referee.  It claims that the Madrid boss “made a present of the first half”, while the referee had “a disastrous match and ignored a clear penalty on Cristiano with the score at 1-0”.


AS

‘¡Penalty!’ Another Madrid paper features a picture of Cristiano arguing with the referee on its front page.  ‘As’ also criticises the officials, “the referee’s fear cut off the Madrid fight back” and Ancelotti, “he undid the team by putting Bale at centre forward”.

 The headline ‘Barça open a six-point lead over Madridaccompanies a spectacular photo of Neymar celebrating the first goal.

6 points adrift. A photo of the two match winners, Alexis and Neymar, joins the headline in the Catalan paper.

‘Barça wins the ‘clasico’, and a photo of the players celebrating the second goal fills the front cover of “El Punt Avui’.  Their coverage stresses the 6-point gap and Alexis’s spectacular goal.


El PAÍS

‘Barça wins a controversial and tactical ‘clásico’. ‘El País highlights Alexis’s ‘beautiful chip’.


EL MUNDO

‘Barça beats an uncertain Madrid. ‘El Mundo’ features a small photo of Alexis and says that Real Madrid “changed their system and claimed two penalties”.

‘Neymar shines in his first Barça v Real.  The Brazilian press focuses on Neymar’s first goal against Real Madrid.


Argentina:

‘More complaints than football’.  The front page features a photo of Cristiano arguing with the referee.


CLARÍN

Barcelona roared in the clásico with south American goals’. The other Argentine paper highlights good performances from Alexis, Neymar and Valdés.


Europe:

THE GUARDIAN

‘Real Madrid angry with referee after defeat to Barcelona in clásico’.  The English broadsheet reflects Madrid criticism of the ref but also focuses on Alexis – “a beautifully weighted finish” – and Neymar – “The Brazilian scored one goal in the first half and helped provide the other for Alexis Sánchez”.


L’EQUIPE

‘Neymar, the prince of Camp Nou.  France’s leading sports paper also highlights the Brazilian in a favourable contrast with Gareth Bale.
