Barça defeated the Malaysia XI all-star team by 1-3 in the final match of the 2013 Asia Tour. Piqué, who scored one of the goals for Barça, evaluated the match: “We’re adapting to what the boss wants, today was difficult to adapt to the conditions, but we played a good match.”

When asked about the rumours that Barça might sign another centre back, Piqué said that “that’s the work of the technical secretary” before adding: “The players who are here now are good enough to defend the team throughout the season.”

Piqué was then asked about the Messi-Neymar duo, to which he said, “they are two players of the highest quality, one of them is the best player in the world, and the other will bring a lot to the team.”

Xavi looks forward to the start of the season

“We felt good both in the training sessions and in the game,” said Xavi Hernández when asked about the conditions of pitch at Bukit Jalil National Stadium and Shah Alam Stadium. He added: “The players who went to the Confederations Cup have trained with the team for two weeks, and the rest of the players have been at it for three. Little by little we’re getting into optimal shape.”

Now that the preseason is officially over, Xavi is turning his attention to the start of the season: “We have to focus on the first match of the Liga so that we can get a good start to the season and reach the objectives we’ve set out for ourselves.”

The vice captain was then asked about Neymar, to which Xavi replied: “He played a good game today. He’s good at taking players on, and that’s something we need especially when teams close themselves off a the back.”

Piqué named MVP of the match

Gerard Piqué, who scored the third goal in Barça’s victory over the Malaysia XI team, was named the MVP of the match. Pedro was named the MVP of the match in Bangkok.
