Luis Enrique brought Barça B up into the second division in the 2009/10 season and in their first season in the second tier, his team won a record number of points for the division.

He moved to take over at Rome in the 2011/12 season, finishing seventh in the Italian League, reaching the Italian Cup Semi-final and being knocked out of the Europa League.

In the season just finished, Luis Enrique was the manager at Celta Vigo, taking the Galicians to an excellent eighth spot in the league.

Luis Enrique Martínez is coming back to the Camp Nou to take over the Barça first team, three years after he left Barça B, a team he managed very successfully from 2008 to 2011, to begin his career away from the Club.

Promotion and record points haul

In Luis Enrique’s first season in charge of Barça B, the youngsters finished fifth in their group of the third division and the following year he took an excellent group of players including Sergi Roberto, Marc Bartra, Martín Montoya, Jonathan Soriano and Thiago Alcántara to promotion after beating Jaen and Sant Andreu in the play offs.

Luis Enrique’s third season in charge saw him take the B team to a record number of 71 points in the second division, a total that took them into third spot behind Betis and Rayo Vallecano who together with Granada won promotion to the top flight.

Managing in Rome and Vigo 

After his success with the B team, Luis Enrique decided to try his luck in Italy, signing for AS Roma, one of Italy’s top clubs featuring big name players such as Totti, De Rossi, Osvaldo and ex-Barça man Bojan Krkic and taking them to seventh in the Italian League, reaching the Italian Cup Semi-final and being knocked out of the Europa League.

After taking a year out, Luis Enrique then took over at Celta Vigo and has just completed an excellent season at Balaidos, taking the Galicians up to an eighth place finish with the help of Rafinha – on loan from Barça- and the ex-Barça players Fontàs and Nolito.
