Getafe will face FC Barcelona in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. The team managed by Luis García eliminated Girona (1-1 and 4-1). Getafe started off strong and they didn’t give the Catalans a chance to get into the match. Sanabria scored the opener after only one minute of play. Three minutes later, Colunga made it two (penalty) and, on 33 minutes, Lafita scored the third with a strike from outside the area. Girona tried to fight back, and they pulled one back through a penalty, but Lisandro López scored the fourth and secured qualification to the next round.
The away leg at the Camp Nou
The first match of the tie will be at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, January 8. The second leg, at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, will be played the following week. The quarter-finals, the winner will face either Levante or Valladolid or Rayo Vallecano.
