Gerard Piqué vows never to leave FC Barcelona

On Monday night, the FC Barcelona defender appeared in a discussion of the relationship between football and the media, but also spoke about his playing career, which he hopes to end at the club

On Monday evening, FC Barcelona centre back Gerard Piqué appeared in the first of the series of conferences titled ‘Instint’ being held at the Barts Theatre, a series of chat shows that combine entertainment with the sharing of information.

Presented by Joan Maria Pou, this edition was called ‘Footballer v Reporters’ and involved Piqué and Pou discussing the relationship between the sport and the media that covers it. But there was also time for the player to discuss certain events from his career, including his goal in the 6-2 win at the Bernabéu. “I’d love to have enjoyed that moment more” he says. “But actually, I hardly remember a thing about itI packed by bags and went on one of my excursions up the field, and when I got to the area I thought about passing to Messi so he could get a hat-trick. But instead I decided to chance it and tried a shot at Casillas.”

Piqué also spoke about his future at FCB. "The natural thing would be for me to retire here – I’m a Barça man and I’ll be doing all I can to stay” he said.
