Gerard Piqué had the honour of scoring the 1,000th goal for Barça in international competitions. The player opened the scoring in the 6-1 victory over Celtic in the final match of the Champions League group stage. The goals that followed took Barça’s tally to 1,005 goals in international competitions.

In fact, the center back is the defender with the most goals in the Champions League in Club history. He’s surpassed the Dutchmen Ronald Koeman and Frank de Boer.

493 goals in the Champions League

The 1,005 goals scored thus far were scored in the following competitions: 493 in the Champions League, 178 in the Cup Winners Cup, 149 in the UEFA Cup, 141 in the Fairs Cup, 17 in the Club World Cup, 12 in the European Super Cup, 12 in the Latin Cup, 2 in the Final of the Fairs Cup and 1 in the Intercontinental Cup.

Three goals through administrative means

We need to point out an important fact about these 1,005 goals. The match between Lazio and FC Barcelona in the away leg of the Round of 32 in the UEFA Cup in the 1975/76 season was not played due to Lazio’s forfeit of the match. The reason was the climate of insecurity that had been generated by the latest round of executions conducted by the Franco regime, which took place on September 27.

UEFA gave FC Barcelona a 0-3 win after Lazio’s forfeit. These three goals are counted in the overall goal tally of the Club in international competitions, as they also counted in the second leg of the tie which ended in a 4-0 for the Blaugrana.
