City lose top spot after Chelsea defeat

Monday night's defeat means City lose top spot and was also the first time they'd lost this season at the Etihad Stadium City are now third on 53 points with Chelsea, two behind new leaders Arsenal

With the defeat  at the Etihad Stadium against Chelsea (0-1),City lost their unbeaten home record and top spot to Arsenal, who won 2-0 against Crystal Palace at the weekend. The Sky Blues are now third, level on points with Chelsea, two behind the Gunners and six clear of fourth place Liverpool. City had taken over top spot last week after Arsenal were held at Southampton (2-2) after five weeks leading the competition.

Curiously enough, City’s loss of top spot coincided with Barça’s, after Martino’s side lost to Valencia on Saturday after leading the table for a record 59 straight weeks.

Unbeaten home records fall

Both Manchester City and Barça have thus lost their unbeaten home record this weekend, with Pellegrini’s side having won all 11 league games at the Etihad Stadium this season, including big wins against Arsenal (6-3), Tottenham (6-0) and Manchester United (4-1).
