Carles Puyol has made his 391th league appearance against Rayo this evening, equalling Migueli’s appearances to join the famous Barça captain as the player to play most league games, behind only Xavi Hernadez on 463.
Louis Van Gaal gave Puyol his league debut on October 21999 away to Valladolid and after establishing himself at right back, Puyol was soon making the centre half role his own.
He won his first league title in the 2994/05 season under Frank Rijkaard and has since gone on to win six more (2004/05, 2005/06, 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2012/13) as part of the 21 titles in all competitions he has won as a Barça player.
