Bartra: “The most important thing is to be consistent and work hard”

The FC Barcelona center back, who is poised to make his debut to Spain, says: "It's a nice surprise, it's a dream for me"

Marc Bartra was one of the players selected to speak during the Spanish national team’s press conference this afternoon, and the Barça player didn't hesitate to talk about his first call-up to Vicente del Bosque’s team: “It was a nice surprise. It’s a dream for me and I’m very grateful to Del Bosque for his confidence. The most important thing now is to be consistent and work hard.”

He added: “It’s important to have team-mates from my Club here like Valdés and Iniesta. They have helped me, but not only them, the rest have as well. The best thing about it isn’t that they are the best players it’s that they are humble human beings. They help you with everything they possibly can and after just one day you have an amazing impression of them.”

Bartra was then asked if he sees himself as a natural replacement for anyone on the team, he responded: “It’s not about replacing anyone. We want to keep on playing. The most important thing is to use the players so that we can become the best national team in the world again.”

The World Cup is a possibility

When questioned about his chances to be part of the Spain squad in next summer’s World Cup, Bartra said: “Going to the World Cup as a Spain player is the best thing that can happen to a footballer and I’ll try to accomplish that. I always have to be ready and I’ll fight to be on the team.”

Bartra also talked about his current form: “Every moment is important. But I have to be aware of what’s happening to me: coming here and starting for my team. I’d like to maintain that level for as long as possible.”
