Barça to play Levante on opening day

The side coached by Joaquín Caparrós will be coming to the Camp Nou on the first day of Liga action

FC Barcelona will start La Liga 2013/14 at home to Levante on the weekend of August 17 and 18. It will be the first time they have started a campaign against the Valencian outfit.

FC Barcelona won both matches against Levante last season, winning 4-0 on the road and then edging a 1-0 win at the Camp Nou thanks to a late goal from Cesc.

Difficult start

After entertaining Levante, Barcelona have two games on the road. First they go to Malaga and after that to Valencia, followed by an international break. In game four it’s back to the Camp Nou for another tough match, against Sevilla.

First derby at home

On November 2 or 3, Barça have the first local derby against Espanyol and it’ll be at the Camp Nou. They don’t travel to Cornellà-El Prat until game 31, on the weekend of March 29 and 30, two games after the trip to Real Madrid.

Three midweek matches

Because of the World Cup in Brazil, the 2013/14 fixture list is a bit tighter than last season. There will be three midweek matches, in round 6 (FCB v Real Sociedad), round 11 (Celta v FCB) and round 30 (FCB v Celta).

Last game against Atlético

The final weekend of Liga action will be May 17 and 18, with Barça entertaining Atlético Madrid at the Camp Nou. Of course, this will not be the first return visit by former FCB striker David Villa, as the two clubs will be meeting in the Spanish Supercup. In the second-to-last match, Barça will have travelled to newly promoted Elche.
