Xavi Hernández was one of the FC Barcelona players that could have scored against Real Madrid this Wednesday evening. His free kick saw the ball crash against the woodwork and minutes later his shot was cleared off the line by Varane. After the match the Blaugrana was clear that the result could have been much better for Barça. “We let them off. I think we were the better side, we dominated and we created more scoring chances. It’s a strange feeling.” He added that in the most recent Clásicos Barça are “creating chances but we aren’t accurate in front of goal. Scoring goals is key.”

On the return leg, Xavi said that “everything is still wide open” and he believes that “it will be the same story in the return leg, but we’ll try to be more effective.” The midfielder added, despite the missed opportunities, that the 1-1 is a “good result.”

Cesc Fàbregas

“These are always very intense matches. We weren’t as active at the start. However, the result, seeing how the game played out, could have favoured us more.”

“It’s a good result. We still have the return leg at home. We have a month before that match and now we have to focus on the Liga, that’s the most important thing.”

“We’re playing at a good level, we’re having a spectacular season.”

“We created ideal chances to win the game and now we’re leaving with a sense of disappointment.”

“It was a great match. They started off strong and later we stepped up our game.”

Andrés Iniesta

“Perhaps we are leaving with a bad taste in our mouths because we had our chances; they had their chances, too. It was a very competitive and intense match. In general we dominated, at times, however, we weren’t very precise.”

“We dominated most of the match, we created chances and we could have scored another, but the end result is what it is.”

“We have to be positive about the score seeing that coming to the Bernabéu and winning isn’t easy.”

Gerard Piqué

“On a personal level I feel great, and on a collective level we played a great game. We deserved more but we’re leaving with a good feeling. I’m sure the Camp Nou will help us in return leg.”

“We have the lesson learned that no matter how much we control the situation, things like this can happen.”

Puyol and Pinto, anti-doping tests
