The two Azulgrana keepers have returned from the summer break on form. Both Víctor Valdés and José Manuel Pinto were decisive at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg this Wednesday in Barça’s fourth friendly match of the pre-season. Between the two of them, Barça didn’t conceded a goal in the 90 minutes of play or in the best-of-three penalty shootout at the end of the match. Valdés has kept a clean sheet int the 90 minutes he’s played this pre-season and Pinto has saved three penalties out of four.

Valdés was given the responsibility of defending Barça’s goal against Manchester United in the first half. The Catalan did well to save a penalty taken by Wayne Rooney in the last minute of the of the first 45.

Pinto, decisive in penalty shootouts

Pinto came out onto the pitch at the start of the second half. The keeper responded brilliantly to Kagawa’s curling shot on 48 minutes, but he was saving his best for the penalty shootout that came 42 minutes later. Nani was the first to test the keeper from the penalty spot, but his shot crashed against the woodwork; moments later Pinto saved Young’s 11-meter attempt. Pinto, who also saved two penalties against PSG this weekend, is proving to be a specialist when it comes to penalty shots.
