Barça easily brushed aside Raja Club Athletic in the second match of this summer’s pre-season. Without a doubt, one of the players that had the biggest impact on the 0-8 rout was Leo Messi, who, after missing the first game of the summer, made his debut in Tangier with a hat-trick. Tito Vilanova highlighted the importance of being able to call upon the three-time Ballon d’Or winner: “when you have the world’s best player, who has this capacity to score goals, he usually marks the difference. He proved it once again.”

For the Azulgrana manager, the match against Raja Club Athletic was an excellent chance for the players “to get some minutes on the pitch” against a team that “forces you to run.” He added: “we were warned of Raja’s quality after watching their match against Athletic Club Bilbao, but we were ready when came into the match.” Vilanova was once again extremely pleased with the level of the Barça B players in tonight’s match: “they always deliver. They played at a very high level.”

Catalan Super Cup

On the Catalan Football Federation’s decision to suspend the Catalan Super Cup after FC Barcelona announced that Barça B would represent the Club in the competition, the Barça manager noted: “I understand that everyone isn’t and can’t be happy with our decision. I would like it if our position was understood, because that’s the week that we’ll all be together [the entire squad]. After that match we have two more matches the following week and the internationals are scheduled to return to the team. I informed the Club of my concern and the Club decided to play with the B team.”

“Villa made a lot of progress in the last month”

Tito Vilanova admitted that David Villa’s return to training “was a surprise.” He added that “we’re talking about a serious and long injury. When he’s ready to play, we’ll welcome him with open arms. He’s made a lot of progress in the last month.”
