Season 2012/13: Spanish League Preview Week 29

La Liga is back after the international break and we look at three big questions this weekend’s fixtures have thrown up.

With big European games against Galatasaray and Borrusia Dortmund this week, Real Madrid travel to Zaragoza and Malaga are at Rayo. Mourinho rests Varane and Casilllas is still not match fit, whist Pellegrini’s side need the points at Vallecas to stay in the hunt for a top four finish. Will Madrid extend their six- game winning run and will Malaga go for points at Rayo over Champions League glory against the Germans?

Third from bottom Mallorca(24 points) begin a massive fortnight that sees them visit the Camp Nou next weekend and then host the team immediately below them – Celta (23 points). First up though, is the chance to surely finish off bottom team Deportivo (20), who visit the Iberostar Stadium on Sunday on the back of their win against Celta before the international break. Is this to be the start of another great escape for Manzano’s islanders – or the beginning of the end?

Is this the weekend when Real Sociedad break clear in the battle for fourth? The Basques are currently in front in the race for the final Champions League spot, with 47 points – two ahead of Valencia, who face a tough, tough trip to the Vicente Calderon and with the four teams in a bunch below that all playing each other(Rayo-Malaga and Betis-Getafe), a fourth away win on the run would establish Phillipe Montanier’s team as firm favourites for a top four finish.
