Radamel Falcao hit five for Atletico Madrid in their 6-0 win over a hapless Deportivo on Sunday – a result that leaves them still six points behind Barça ahead of next weekend’s top two clash, whilst sentencing Deportivo to bottom spot, having conceded 37 goals in 15 games. Although the goals leave the Colombian on 16 league strikes for the campaign so far, he is still seven behind Leo Messi, though he now has three more than Ronaldo, who failed to get on the scoresheet in Real Madrid’s 2-3 win at Valladolid, where Ozil got two and Benzema the other after the hosts had twice gone ahead through two goals from Manucho. Real stay third, five points behind Atletico and 11 adrift of Barça.

Malaga and Levante both score big

Malaga laid claim to fourth with a 4-0 win over Granada, with Joaquin and Saviola opening the scoring in the first half and Camacho and Santa Cruz finishing the game off after the break. With Betis losing to Barça, Levante moved to within a point of sixth place with another big win, putting four past Mallorca, Obefemi Martins getting his sixth of the season so far. Getafe are just a point behind Levante on 23, after they and Real Sociedad shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Anoeta – with both goals coming in the last five minutes – Lafita for Getafe and Martinez for Real.

Debut win for Valverde

That defeat for Mallorca means they have now lost eight out of their last ten games and plummeted to fourth from bottom – just a point ahead of Granada on 12, with Deportivo and Espanyol on 11. Osasuna are level on 13 after Soldado gave Ernesto Valverde a debut league win in Pamplona (0-1) and Valencia their first away win of the season. Celta(15 points) are just ahead of Osasuna after going down 1-0 to Bilbao, with Arduriz’s ninth goal of the season giving the Basques the points and leaving them three ahead of Celta. Zaragoza also put some space between themselves and the relegation fight by winning 0-2 at Rayo on Monday night to join the Madrid team in mid-table comfort on 19 points.
