Fifth time the team have lost when Messi has scored – and only the second time in the league.

Saturday night saw Barça suffer their first defeat of the season. Below we look at some of the facts and figures arising from the game:

- It was the sixth time that Real Sociedad had put a halt to a long winning run from Barça at the start of a league campaign, following defeats in the 1930/31, 1961/62, 1969/70, 1972/73, 1974/75 and 2012/13 seasons.

-Leo Messi’s goal was the 3,000th that Real have conceded in their top flight league history.

-Messi has scored in 121 league matches and Barça have ended up losing just two of them – Saturday’s and the 4-3 defeat against Atletico Madrid in March 2009. Messi has scored in 182 games in all competitions, of which 161 ended in wins, 16 were drawn and just five were lost.

-Saturday’s was Barça’s first league away defeat in nearly a year – their last came on February 11th 2012 and in the 18 games since then they have won 17 and drawn one.

- Tito Vilanova has equalled Pep Guardiola’s Club record of 10 straight away wins.

- Until Saturday night, Barça were the only unbeaten team in all the major European leagues.
