Sergi Roberto glad to see Barça B players getting chances

The midfielder started the match against Benfica, and feels that the way Tito Vilanova is using so many reserve team members “shows things are being done right and that the first team coaches have faith in the reserves”

Sergi Roberto made his third first team appearance of the season against Benfica, having also played both legs of the cup tie against Alavés. He ended the game with the second best passing rate (83) after Thiago (93), and afterwards described his pleasure at getting another run-out in a European fixture to ‘El Marcador’ on Barça TV, saying that “it’s good that so many Barça B players are getting chances because it shows things are being done right and that the first team coaches have faith in the reserves … We always go out with a special attitude when we play for the first team, that’s why we try to do our very best for the whole match”.

Messi strong

The negative note to the evening was Leo Messi being stretchered off with a knee injury. Sergi Roberto was as stunned as everybody, because “it’s not normal for him to leave the field on a stretcher … But he’s a strong player and we hope he recovers quickly”.

Mind on Elche

After playing in the Champions League, Sergi Roberto is now equally looking forward to the Barça B match on Saturday at 18.00 against second division leaders Elche. He is pleased to see how the Club has made a special effort this season to ensure good attendances at the Miniestadi. “We are grateful for the campaign the Club is promoting. There are more and more people coming and it’s much nicer to play in front of a big support.” He encouraged as many fans as possible to come to the Mini to see what he expects to be a terrific match between Barça B and top flight hopefuls Elche.
