FC Porto have not defeated FC Barcelona since 1985. The last time the two teams faced off was in 2011 in the European Super Cup, which was won by the Blaugrana thanks to strikes from Messi and Cesc (2-0). - GALATASARAY

After a bumpy start in the Champions League (two defeats and a draw), Galatasaray roared back into contention and sealed a spot in the knock-out round by defeating Braga in the last match of the group stage (1-2). The last time Galatasaray faced Barça was ten years ago. Barça won both matches: 0-2 in Turkey and 3-1 at the Camp Nou. - ARSENAL FC

Since the final at Saint-Denis in 2006, Barça and Arsenal have crossed paths on two further occasions, in the 2009/10 quarter finals and the 2010/11 second round. The London based side have got off to a poor start in the Premiership, but in Europe are still on course for the final, which they reached in the 2005/06 season. Winners of seven European Cups, the Italian giants are currently immersed in a generational changeover and not challenging for the Serie A title. Historic figures such as Seedorf, Gattuso, Nesta and Inzaghi all left this summer, and Thiago Silva and Ibrahimovic were sold to PSG. El Shaarawy is the main threat and Bojan the most familiar face for Barça fans. Off the pace in the league, Europe represents the team’s big hope, though they are yet to win at home in the competition this year.

- SHAKHTAR DONETSK

The side managed by Mircea Lusescu is dominating the Ukrainian Premier League and has finished second in its Champions League group, a competition in which it has featured every year since 2000
Brazilian Willian is the team’s most in-form player in Europe, with four goals in the last six outings. But it is Henrikh Mkhitaryan who leads the scoring in the domestic championship with 15 goals. Barça and Shakhtar have played 8 times before, with FCB winning 5 times, drawing twice and losing once. They last met in 2010/11, when Josep Guardiola’s side came out tops in the quarter final.
