It’s getting hard to keep track of all the youth team footballers that have make their official debuts for the senior side. La Masia is proving to be a seemingly limitless source of talented footballers, and today it was Carles Planas, a 21-year-old left back, that joined the long list of La Masia senior side debutants. He came in for the Brazilian Adriano and he played his first minutes at the Camp Nou, against Alavés in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey. “It’s impossible to explain what it feels like to make your debut for a team that you’ve been fighting for since you were a child,” he said, “I try to play well, do a good job and give it my all.”

Planas pointed out: “I felt very comfortable playing in the left back position, it’s the position that I’m used to and that always helps.” He added: “Every youth system player is here to realize this dream ... we all prepare for this moment.”

Here are the post-match statements made by Adriano and José Manuel Pinto:

Adriano

“First we have to make sure we’re solid at the back, then we can go forward. Things are working out for me, I’m scoring goals and this is thanks to the confidence that my teammates and the manager give me.”

“I played quite a few minutes, I’m pleased with how I played, for the victory and for being able to play again.”

Pinto

“There is very little you can say to the youngsters, they come up from the reserve side well trained. They know the philosophy, the game, they are so eager ... they’re fantastic players.”

“It doesn’t surprise me that Alavés played a good and serious game and that it took us a bit of time to find spaces. They approached the match brilliantly, they are a great team.”

“The fans always answer the call and today was no exception. Even though it’s a work day, the fans responded like they always do.”

“It’s time to focus on La Liga, there will be time enough to think about Córdoba.”

“Every keeper would prefer to keep a clean sheet but the important thing is that we won, that’s more important than individual stats.”

“If Deulofeu continues on this path he’ll consolidate himself as good player. He’s already proving his worth but he needs to have a good head on his shoulders and his feet on the ground, like all the players.”

“After the first goal you can’t start to think that another one will come soon, you have to keep on fighting and turn the game around.”

Next training session

The first team will train at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Thursday. Thiago Alcántara will talk to the press after the session.
