Goals and Barça, the perfect and enduring marriage   The Confederations Cup in Brazil has proved the ideal setting for Barça players once again to display their appetite for goals.  The haul so far is three goals from Villa, two from Jordi Alba and one from Pedro with Spain, and three for Neymar with Brazil

Barça dominates line-up and goals for Spain

Pedro was the first of Barça’s stars to score for Spain, getting the opening goal of the match against Uruguay which ended in a 2-1 victory for Spain. Not to be outdone by his club team-mate, Jordi Alba netted a double against Nigeria to send Spain to a 3-0 win.  David Villa completed the 1-2-3 with a hat-trick in Spain’s 10-0 destruction of Tahiti (10-0), the biggest win of the tournament.

In the semi-final, Spain came up against Italy.  The match ended in a penalty shootout which once again featured a big representation from Barça.  Piqué, Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets all converted their spot kicks with ease as Spain went through to the final 7-6 on penalties.

Neymar Jr: goals, efficiency and magic

For Barça’s eye-catching recent signing it was a chance to show his new fans just what the fuss is all about.  In the group stage, the young striker opened his account with an unstoppable volley in Brazil’s 3-0 defeat of Japan.

Against Mexico, he took an early goal and then set up Jo to seal a 2-0 win late in injury time.  And in a vibrant duel with Italy, Neymar chalked up his third so far with a superb free kick that Buffon could only admire as it sailed into the top corner of his net.

Neymar proved to be equally effective against Uruguay in the semi-finals.  The 21-year-old broke into the box and keeper Fernando Muslera did well to save but was helpless as Fred hit home the rebound.  Then with less than five minutes to go, a Neymar corner kick was headed in by Paulinho to send Brazil into the final.  Neymar will now be looking to extend his run of form in his first match against Spain.  But they’ll be plenty of club team-mates on the other side determined match his best.
