Nine Barça players have been named in the Spanish Confederations Cup squad. Vicente del Bosque has announced his list of 23 men for the tournament being played in Brazil from June 15, and these include Valdés, Piqué, Alba, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, Cesc and Villa, all of whom were in the Euro 2012 winning squad.

Like at South Africa 2010, FC Barcelona is the most represented club in the team, followed by Real Madrid (5) and Chelsea (3).

Alves and Neymar make it eleven

Alves will also be playing in what has become a traditional dress rehearsal for the nation hosting the World Cup, which this time round is Brazil, and he will be joined by his future team-mate Neymar. That means that there will be a total of eleven FCB players on show in South America this summer.

The tournament kicks off on June 15 with the hosts facing Asian champions Japan. The other two sides in that group are Concacaf champions Mexico and the runners-up at Euro 2012, Italy. Spain’s campaign starts on the 16th against Copa America champions Uruguay, and after that will play the champions of Oceania and Africa, Taihiti and Nigeria. The top two teams in each group will progress to the semi-finals.
