Leo Messi found the back of the net this afternoon and he took his goalscoring streak in La Liga to 19 consecutive matches. The Argentine fired Barça ahead at Balaídos, but he lamented the final result (2-2). “I was lucky enough to score and help the team in all of these matches, but what we really wanted was to win,” he said. The Blaugrana went on to say that “victory slipped away in the last moment, but we need to turn the page, we can’t lose our focus.”

Games after the international break

The player who captained the team this afternoon against Celta said, “games after the international break, especially away from home against a team that have so much at stake like Celta are always difficult,” and “it’s not easy to come back and play, because practically all of us are called up to national teams and we can’t prepare for the match like we would have liked.”

The good news

FC Barcelona’s week was marked by Tito Vilanova and Éric Abidal’s return to the first team. On the manager’s return to the team’s training sessions, Messi said “he's very upbeat. It’s very important for all of us to have him here during the final stretch of the season.” On Abidal, who was named to the team for this afternoon’s game against Celta, Mesis noted: “it brings us all great joy to have Éric back in the team.”

Here are the statements made by Cristian Tello, Pinto, Marc Bartra and Montoya after the match:

Tello

“It was a difficult match because it was do or die for them. The result isn’t bad.”

“It’s a shame that they scored at the end of the match, because we were very close to winning.”

“I’m very pleased that the manager has confidence in me and I hope to continue growing.”

“Leo doesn’t surprise me, he’s the best. I hope he stays at the level for a long time.”

Pinto

“It was a very special match for me, I got the support from the fans and I’m proud that they remembered me.”

“We’re leaving here with a bit of a sour taste in our mouths because it seemed as though we had the match under control, but we have to pick ourselves up and focus on the match against PSG.”

“Tito’s return brings us all a lot of joy.”

Bartra

“We were on point defensively in the second half and we came close to winning, it’s a shame they scored.”

“We knew that Celta had won most of their points this season at home and that they’d make it difficult for us.”

“It’s important to get more playing time. I was more comfortable in the second half.”

“Piqué has helped me a lot, he’s a leader for me and we understand each other well when we play together.”

“Now it’s time to think about the match in Paris. We need to move on from today’s game, and hopefully everything will work out well.”

Montoya

“I’m pleased with the game I played, it was difficult to play with my off foot.”

“We knew the it was going to be a hard match, because Celta are dangerous going forward and they had a lot at stake.”
