After putting in a brilliant performance this evening against Raja Club Athletic (0-8), the FC Barcelona players talked to the press about the match. The first Azulgrana to make his way down to the press area was Leo Messi, who scored a hat-trick against the Moroccan side.

The Argentine highlighted the connection he has with Alexis Sánchez on the pitch: “Alexis has been with the team for a while. Last season he had a bit of bad luck with injuries, but Alexis Sánchez will be an important player for Barça.” Both the Argentine and the Chilean were involved in the team’s first six goals of the night.

Completely exhausted

Messi admitted that he was “dead” when he was subbed out for Gerard Deulofeu. “We were tired. It was a bit difficult, but that’s normal at this stage of the pre-season. We’re training well and we’re getting better physically. We hope to be in top physical condition when the season starts,” said the Argentine goalscorer.

Messi said that he’s very pleased with the opportunity to complete the entire pre-season under Tito Vilanova: “it’s been a while since I’ve had such long of a vacation, and I’ve always arrived late to the pre-season. It’s a good thing that I’ll be able to complete the entire summer schedule,” said Messi.

Here are the statements made by the Barça players after the match, some of them were made on Twitter:

Marc Bartra:

“We felt great. We played at a great level. Raja Club Athletic are a good team. We saw some of their videos and they play at a high level, but they didn’t have a chance today. The game went well.”

“I’m gaining confidence little by little, getting playing time helps a lot. Moreover, playing alongside Mascherano and Dani Alves is fantastic. I learn a lot from Dani Alves.”

“Playing with Messi is a dream that any player from the reserve side has. Everything is easier with him. He’s the best player in the world. There are no words. I’ve never seen such an ambitious player.”

Sergi Gómez:

“Tito knows us, and we know that every minute that we’re given is an opportunity to get into the first team. I felt great tonight. We’ve been working for days with the first team.”

“Tito talked to us about tonight’s opponent and he told us that it wouldn’t be easy. When they had the ball they did a great job. They had the initiative from the back, they even dominated parts of the match.”

Javier Mascherano:

“We played a great game. Now it’s time to go back to the hotel and head back to Barcelona on Sunday.”

Day off on Sunday

The team will have the day off on Sunday and return to work on Monday. FC Barcelona will play against PSG on August 4 in the team’s third pre-season match of the summer.
