Javier Mascherano gave his opinion on Barça’s 5-1 victory over Osasuna and he talked about how the team will approach the mid-week clash against Real Madrid in the away leg of the Copa del Rey. On tonight’s match the defender said, “we were coming off of a difficult match against Málaga and it’s never easy to play a match like tonight’s.” The Argentine went on to say that “in the first minutes it was evident that we weren’t fresh, but as time passed the goals started to come."

Mascherano also admitted that Arribas’ red card conditioned the rest of the match and that “if you find yourself a man up so early in a game, it favours you to have control, but Osasuna didn’t back down and they showed that they could hurt us at any point in the match ... Going to the break with a 3-1 made it easier to play the second half.”

On Messi and Valdés

When asked about Leo Messi, Mascherano noted that it “is surreal to talk about Messi because he’s from another world.” The defender then went on to talk about about Víctor Valdés: “the fans should understand that he has every right to decide his future. He deserves the applause because he belongs to a select group of players that have won the majority of titles that the Club has won recently.”

The Clásico looms

The Argentine defender also talked about the upcoming Copa del Rey match against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. According to the defender, “it doesn’t matter how teams come into these matches, we’re aware that we're going up against a great Real Madrid [team]. The’ll go all out despite the fact that they’ll be missing important players.”

Messi nets four goals

The Argentine fired for four goals against Osasuna, which took his all-time goal tally in a Liga to 202. Leo Messi noted that “the important thing is that the team played well and that we won.” Messi went on to say that “people were talking about the Clásico and we knew that we had to win today.” Lastly, the Blaugrana forward talked about the Camp Nou’s ovation for Víctor Valdés: “he deserves the applause and more, for me he’s the best keeper in the history of the Club.”

Statements made by Adriano after the match:

“We have to pay more attention to counterattacks and set pieces, it’s very important to concede very few goals.”

“The Clásicos are very tense matches and the team that’s better on the day usually wins, I really don’t care about how the teams are coming into Wednesday’s game.”

“We shouldn’t pay attention to the controversy, we just need to focus on playing and scoring more goals that our opponents.”

“It’s good for the team for players to compete for spots in the starting line-up."
