Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes talked to the press this Monday ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League semi-final showdown with FC Barcelona. “I know my team better than anybody and I know a lot about Spanish football and Barcelona ... The German press has written a lot about whether or not I’d talk to Guardiola in preparation for tomorrow’s match, and I think that would be disrespectful given Pep’s connection with Barça. Additionally, I don’t need more information on Barça. I know them well enough.”

The German manager went on to praise the Blaugrana as “an excellent group of players” and he noted that Andrés Iniesta is “the best European player at the moment.”

Pizarro or Gómez, Heynckes’ options for Bayern’s attack

When asked who would replace the suspended Mandzukic on Tuesday, Heynckes said that he hadn’t made a decision on which forward – Pizarro or Gómez – he’d name to the starting line-up: “I’m lucky in that I can choose between two marvelous players. I have to speak with both of them before I make my decision.”
