Leo Messi is about to rewrite the football record books once again. If the Argentinian scores in the first match after the international break, against Celta on March 30 (18.00), he will set two new footballing landmarks.

19 games in a row

Since Barça won 4-2 in Mallorca, on November 11, Messi has scored in every single league match, an incredible 18 games in a row. In those games he has scored 29 goals and has a total of 42 this campaign. At Balaídos, he’ll have the chance to become the first player to score in 19 consecutive matches, which would mean scoring against every team in the competition.

Celta the only remaining victim

The last time Messi failed to score in a Liga encounter was at the Camp Nou against Celta, the only team that the Barça star has not scored against this term. All the other 18 first division teams have seen the Argentinian beat their defence at least once.

A goal against Celta would make him only the second player to ever score against every other side in the tournament after the feat was first achieved last season by Cristiano Ronaldo. Bebeto, with Deportivo in 1992/93, and Baltazar, of Atlético Madrid in 1988/99, had come the closest before that, but both were just one team short of the full house.
