FC Barcelona-Celta: Best ever start in sight

After eight wins and a draw, Barça have the chance against Celta to seal their best ever record in the first ten games of a Liga season. It is thanks to this amazing start that they are top of the league, tied on points with Atlético Madrid, who are also on stunning form. However, it is Barça that has the better goal difference (29 for and 11 against), after winning all four games played since the last international break.

Lively build-up

The main focus of attention prior to the game has been Leo Messi. He missed training on Friday after becoming a father for the first time, but Tito Vilanova has said in his press conference that the Argentinian will most probably still be in the starting line-up.

But it looks like we might have to wait a little longer for Gerard Piqué’s return. “It is a matter of days”, said Vilanova. So, once again there is uncertainty regarding the centre of the FCB defence, with Mascherano, Bartra, Adriano and Song competing for two places. Having served his suspension in Vallecas, the Argentinian is expected to be involved on Saturday.

Home bred talent

Celta, meanwhile, are back at the Camp Nou for the first time in six seasons. They can feel reasonably happy with the way their return to top flight football has gone so far, where they are currently thirteenth with 13 points. Coach Paco Herrera has a squad that is firmly based around local talent and that likes to play passing football. At the moment, it is at home that they have been showing the best form, while their four road trips so far this season have all ended in defeats.

Like Barça, Celta have problems in the centre of defence to contend with. Herrera is missing the suspended Cabral, and also the injured Samuel. Midfielder Insúa is also sidelined.
