Ecuador convincingly beat Alexis Sánchez’ Chile by 3 to 0 at the New York Mets’ Citi Field. Chile, theoretically a better team than Ecuador, weren’t able to mount a convincing challenged to their South American counterparts. In fact, this is Chile’s biggest defeat to Ecuador in the 45 matches played between the two sides.

Alexis plays 90 minutes

Alexis Sánchez played the entire match despite the physical problems that called the player’s availability into question before kickoff. The Azulgrana’s most notable play of the match came when he tried his luck from long range, the Ecuador keeper, however, did well to deny the goal.

In September, Alexis will be back with his national team for Chile's World Cup qualifiers. Chile will play against Colombia on the 11th.

First half, key to the outcome of the game

The Chileans were overwhelmed by  Ecuador’s pace, passing play and defence. It only took Ecuador 10 minutes to score its first. Chile’s lax defending led to Ecuador’s second goal, nearly four minutes later.

The flow of play didn’t change in the second half. On 57 minutes, Ecuador scored its third and definitive goal.
