101 goals in La Liga

FC Barcelona score their 100th and 101st goals in La Liga this season thanks to strikes from Messi and Alexis

Messi’s goal, which made it 1-1 against Athletic Club, was Barça’s 100th goal in La Liga this season. This is the fourth time Barça have reached this amount of goals in the competition.

The record stands at 114 goals

In addition to this year, FC Barcelona netted more than 100 goals in the 2011/12 season (114), the 2008/09 season (105) and the 1996/97 season (102). What’s particularly interesting about this season is the speed with which Barça have netted their goals. This is the first time in Club history that the Blaugrana have reached the century mark this early in the competition. Here's an overview of when Barça reached their 100th goal in past seasons:

2011/12. Round 36 (04/29/12). Rayo-Barça: 0-7 (from 97 goals to 104). Goal 100: Keita.

2008/09. Round 34 (02/05/09). Madrid-Barça: 2-6 (from 94 goals to 100). Goal 100: Piqué

1996/97. Round 41 (06/15/97). Barça-Betis: 3-0 (from 97 goals to 100). Goal 100: Luis Enrique.

The Blaugrana have five more Liga matches to break last year’s record, and the overall record of the competition, which is heal by Real Madrid (121 goals).

Messi, 44 of 101 goals

Many of the goals scored this season have had one thing in common: Leo Messi. The Argentine has netted 44 of the team’s 101 goals. He’s followed by Cesc (10), Villa (8), Tello (7), Pedro (5), Xavi (5), Adriano (5), Alexis (5), Piqué (2), Alba (2), Thiago (2), Iniesta (2), Puyol (1), Busquets (1), Song (1) and an own goal scored by Granada.
