With Barça preparing to play in last-16 round of the Champions League and trailing Madrid by 10 points in the league, Andoni Zubizarreta defended Barça’s first team from the recent criticism it has received: “we constantly self-evaluate. We always try to be the best, I don’t believe that the team has become complacent.”

At the same time, the Basque director recognized that winning the fourth consecutive league title is complicated: “10 points are a lot of games, we obviously aren’t dependent on ourselves anymore. We must keep on competing, and maintain the pressure in the league and we’ll see how it all works out in May. Mathematically, it’s difficult, but we have to try.”

Champions League

Keeping the league in mind, the Champions League could become the standard by which the team measures itself at the end of the season. Zubizarreta said that “if we consider that we’re in the final of the Cup, and if we win the Champions League, plus the three titles we’ve already won ...  the season would be extraordinary. In any case, we cannot give up on the league.”
