Undoubtedly, both Gerard Piqué and David Villa are two key parts of Guardiola’s current FC Barcelona side. However, some time ago, both defended the Real Zaragoza colours, Barça’s next opponent in the League

David Villa joined Zaragoza from Sporting Gijon in the 2003/04, season and scored a total of 32 goals in 73 games for the club before being sold to Valencia in the 2005/06 season. Besides making his debut with the Spanish national team, Villa won his first titles in Zaragoza as a professional footballer. In his first season he won the Spanish Cup, where he scored a goal in the final against Real Madrid, and he followed that by winning the Spanish Super Cup against Valencia.

For his part, Gerard Piqué played for Real Zaragoza on loan from Manchester United during the 2006/07 season. The Catalan defender played a total of 22 league games, including 18 starts, and scored twice. He played mainly in the centre of the defence alongside former Barça player, Gaby Milito, although he also played as a defensive midfielder and even right back. That Zaragoza team, led by Victor Fernandez, qualified for the UEFA Cup, after finishing the League competition in 6th place.

Following their international commitments, both Villa and Pique will face their former team on Saturday at 20.00 (GMT+1) at the Camp Nou.
