Michu (Rayo Vallecano).

Levante's early pace setting seems to have hit the brakes after they crashed to their second defeat in a week and the 0-2 loss to Valencia means they are now fourth, a point behind their city neighbours, though still a clear five points ahead of Seville in fifth. Real Sociedad's defeat at Rayo, combined with draws between Racing and Granada and Sporting and Zaragoza and a great win for Getafe at home to Atletico Madrid, sent them to the bottom of the table on the back of their sixth defeat in their last seven games.

Valencia take derby points and third spot

An own goal from Javi Venta and a perfectly struck free kick from Tino Costa gave Emery's team the win over Levante and the Valencia boss explained after the game: "we are satisfied with that and now we need some continuity. We showed personality and intelligence".  That result leaves Valencia just a point behind Barça ahead of their next league game in a fortnight at home to Real Madrid. Mourinho's team gave Osasuna another thrashing to follow on from their 8-0 defeat at the Camp Nou, with Cristiano Ronaldo getting another hat trick and Benzema (2), Higuain and Pepe also chipping in. The Pamplona team's chances were pretty slim to start with as they had been badly hit by injuries before the game and once they had been reduced to 10 men on 53 minutes, when Sastrutegi saw his second yellow, it was all over for them.

Goals in short supply for chasing pack

Fifth placed Seville stuttered to another disappointing result when they were held to a goalless draw in Mallorca, which means they have now gone four games without a win and are five points adrift of Llevant and just a point ahead of Malaga, who also drew 0-0 away to Betis. Espanyol also missed the chance to leapfrog Seville when they were held to yet another goalless draw at home to Villarreal.

Barça's draw at San Mames was the sixth of the weekend, with Granada and Racing recording the fourth goalless draw and Zaragoza also sharing the points in a 2-2 result at La Romareda thanks to a 92nd minute equaliser for the hosts from Helder Postiga.

Real sink to bottom and Getafe fight back

Those results leave the four teams in the same positions, with Granada, Racing and Sporting on 9 points and Zaragoza on 10. Getafe moved off the bottom and up above Zaragoza with an amazing fightback against Atletico Madrid, after going down to a penalty on the half hour and seeing Lopo sent off in the same incident. Barrada and Michel hit back for the hosts before Dominguez brought Atletico back into the game, only for Castro to convert an 83rd minute penalty to give Getafe their first win since September. Real Sociedad's chances of getting anything from their game in Vallecas were dealt two body blows in the first ten minutes after Bergara limped off on three minutes and Iñigo Martinez'z red card reduced them to ten men seven minutes later.  Piti, Michu(2) and Trashorras scored the goals for Rayo.
