FC Barcelona will play Santos FC this Sunday in what will be the Club's third Club World Cup, formerly known as the Intercontinental Cup, final against an Brazilian side. Just as in the previous two occasions, Japan is the host nation.

Raí’s Sao Paulo

In the 1992/93 season, Barça played the Intercontinental Cup final in Japan against the champions of South America, Sao Paulo, after beating Sampdoria in the Champions League final in the previous season. The Brazilian side came out on top after fighting back from Stoichkov’s early goal thanks to two goals from Raí, younger brother to the late Sócrates.

Internacional de Porto Alegre, champions in overtime

In the current format of the Club World Cup, which is more representative of football worldwide, includes the European and South American champions and the champions of Africa, Asia, Oceania, North America and the Leauge champion of the host nation. In Japan once again, FC Barcelona opened its bid in the semifinal against Mexico’s América, and won 4-0. Barça lost the final in overtime, however, to another Brazilian team, Internacional de Porto Alegre (1-0).

This Sunday, Barça will have another opportunity to win the title in Japan against a Brazilian side, this time it will be against Santos FC, the team headed up by Neymar, Ganso and Danilo.
