FC Barcelona’s midfielder, Thiago Alcántara, who was on international duty with Spain’s Under-21 squad, said that we wasn’t worries about the so called ‘FIFA virus’ during today’s press conference. Barça is to face Zaragoza this weekend in the League and Alcántara explained that “the fact that we’ve had complications in games after international breaks is fairly random. We’re back and we have the same desire to win as we did before.” He went on to say “the fact that the majority of Barça’s first team players are named to national squads is great, it shows the hard work the players put in at the Club.”

Thiago Alcántara, recent full time addition to the first team this season, said he was happy with the work he’s put in for the team, “I didn’t think I would be playing so much this season, I’m a bit surprised with the amount of minutes I’ve been given on the field. It’s a great surprise.” Alcántara also had words for his fellow midfielder, Cesc, “he’s a great player that pairs really well with me and the rest of the team.” The player also highlighted some of the deficiencies in his play that he intends to work on, “as time goes on you mature and evolve, in certain situations I would be too risky with my play. Playing out wide is more secure, easy and simple.”

“Messi, a one of kind player”

Lastly, addressing the critiques Messi has received while playing for Argentina, Alcántara said he doesn’t believe that Messi suffers from “Barçadependency,” and that it was normal that the Argentine’s play was better when he played for Barça, because “he’s known the players here for a long time and you get used to how they play.” Alcántara added, “it’s a real joy to be able to play games and train alongside Leo Messi, he’s a one of a kind player. I don’t understand the critiques, but you have to respect them.” Thiago Alcántara finished by saying “Messi should always play.”

Thiago: “Rafinha is very happy at Barça”

During the press conference, Thiago Alcántara was asked about Rafinha’s, his brother, ongoing contract renewal negotiations with Barça B. Thiago said that “Rafinha is a great person, a great footballer, and we still don’t know how good he truly really is. He’s in talks with the Club about renewing his contract, he’s very happy here.”
