The L'Équipe reporters, the co-organisers of the Balon d'Or, traditionally pick their team of the year at the end of the year, and as has become almost traditional in recent editions, Barça players have once again dominated in 2011. Dani Alves at right back, Gerard Piqué as centre back, Sergio Busquets in the middle with Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta on either side and Leo Messi up front are the FCB players named.

It is the reward for a magnificent year in which Barça won yet another Liga title and also amazed Europe with the football that won back the Champions League title. They added the Spanish and European Super Cups to make it five titles out a possible six, only missing out on the Copa del Rey by the narrowest of margins.

The other members of the L'Équipe team are Neuer (Bayern Munich) in goal, Vidic (Manchester United) as the other centre back,  Marcelo (Madrid) at left back and Cristiano Ronaldo (Madrid) and David Silva (Manchester City) in attack.

Barcelona also dominated the 2011 all-star team picked by Internet users. Alves, Piqué, Xavi, Iniesta and Messi were also in this team, plus Éric Abidal and Cesc Fàbregas. The other four players were all from Real Madrid: Casillas, Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema.
