Rosell, Vilarrubí and Masfurroll, with Prime Minister David Cameron

Sandro Rosell and vice-president Carles Vilarrubí, in London for the Laureus World Sports Awards, were hosted by David Cameron in at a reception at Downing Street.

The reception was held in support of the Laureus Sport for Good foundation and for the launch of the British governmental athletic programme. David Cameron also received the 2,012 Laureus World Sports Awards nominees in a show of gratitude and support ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic games in London this summer.

Elite reception

Members from the Laureus Academy and athletes attending the gala; Miguel Indurain, Patrick Kluivert, Boris Becker, Nadia Comenici, Emerson Fittipaldi, Nova Djokovic, amongst many others, were invited to attend a more intimate gathering.

The meeting took place at 10 Downing Street. The British Prime Minister personally greeted President Rosell and vice-president Vilarrubí. During the conversation, Rosell presented Cameron with a Barça shirt with the Prime Minister’s name on it. The gift was received with much enthusiasm as the British Prime Minister and Barça representatives conversed.

Words of gratitude from Cameron

Cameron thanked the guests for attending and he highlighted the importance of the Laureus Awards, referring to them as the “Oscars of sport.” Lastly, the Prime Minister said he was thankful that this year the Laureus gala was taking place in London, host city for the 2012 Olympics.
