The 2013/14 Copa del Rey slipped away in the final. FC Barcelona were defeated 1-2 by Real Madrid thanks to a late goal by Gareth Bale in the dying minutes of the match.

Undefeated until the final

Barça’s road to the final was nearly impeccable. They defeated Cartagena in the Round of 32 (1-4 and 3-0), Getafe in the Round of 16 (4-0 and 0-2), and Levante in the quarterfinals (1-4 and 5-1).

In the semifinals Barça went up against Real Sociedad. The blaugrana won the first match by 2-0 and drew 1-1 at Anoeta to secure a place in the final.

In Mestalla, the stadium that hosted the final, Di María scored in the first half, and Marc Bartra equalised in the second. When everything looked like it was going to extra time, Gareth Bale made it 1-2.
