The team that doesn’t put away its chances usually ends up losing. That’s what happened to FC Barcelona in the semi-finals of the 2012/13 Copa del Rey. Barça could have killed off the tie at the Bernanéu, but they were unable to put away their chances. The one-all draw gave the devastatingly accurate Real Madrid side way too much breathing room in the return leg at the Camp Nou. The final score (1-3) saw the Blaugrana’s title defence come to an end.

Rampant until the semi-finals

Before the double-header against Madrid, Barça had eliminated Alavés (0-3 and 3-1), Córdoba (0-2 and 5-0) and Málaga (2-2 and 2-4). The quarter-final tie against Málaga was especially exciting, and after it was all said and done, Barça had qualified for the penultimate round of the competition.
