10 things you (probably) never knew about FC Midtjylland

The FC Barcelona Under-19 team's opponents in the UEFA Youth League is a mystery to Barça fans despite being the Danish champions

Midtjylland was founded in 1999 through a merger of two clubs: Herning Fremad (1918) and Ikast FS (1935.

It will be Midtjylland’s first ever clash with FC Barcelona.

Both the first team and the U-19 team are the current League champions in Denmark ahead of FC Copenhagen and Brondby, respectively.

Midtjylland plays its games at the SAS Arena, known as 'Ulvegrotten,' which means 'Wolf Cave,’ which has a capacity of 12,000 and a fully covered seating area.

Gloire Rutikanga is the team’s top scorer in the Youth League with three goals in four games. Anderson, Nissen and Thychosen have scored two each.

Of their five Youth League matches, Midtjylland have won four and drawn one (4-4 against Atlético Madrid). They therefore arrive unbeaten to the last 16s.

To get here, the team beat Saburtalo (Georgia), Legia Warsaw (Poland) and Atlético Madrid.

Against the Spanish club, they came from 2-1 and 3-2 behind to grab a draw and converted all five of their attempts in the penalty shootout.

Their first team is still alive in the Europa League, and is about to face Manchester United.

Former players include Simon Kjaer (now at Fenerbahçe, formerly of Roma, Lille, Wolfsburg and Palermo), Morten Skoubo (ex Real Sociedad) and Mohammed Zidan (once of Borussia Dortmund and now at Mainz).
