Matías Nahuel Leiva

Matías Nahuel was born on 22 November 1996 in Rosario, Argentina but also has a Spanish passport. The player began his career with Villarreal’s football school in his native Rosario before moving to Spain to continue in the youth set up at Villarreal. He made his debut in the first division with the ‘Yellow Submarine’, appearing 20 times for the first team as well playing the Copa del Rey, in which he scored his first goal for the club, and the Europa League. At the start of the 2017/18 season he joined fellow La Liga club Betis on loan.

On 29 January FC Barcelona announced that they had reached an agreement with Villarreal for the loan of Nahuel to Barça B for the remainder of the season with an option to buy.


Technical profile

Nahuel is a quick winger who can take players on. The talented Hispano-Argentine can play anywhere up front and also play in midfield. Furthermore, he is a player who likes to have the ball at his feet and combine with his team mates. Despite his youth, he also has valuable experience playing in the Spanish top flight.
