Six U19 debutants under FC Barcelona B manager Gerard López

Six U19 debutants under FC Barcelona B manager Gerard López

Youth players Aleñá, Carbonell, Carles Pérez, Theo Chendri, Paik and Lee have all played games for the reserve team this season

In such a difficult league as Division 2B, Gerard López has been able to call upon the U19 team when required. Unlike in Division 2A, the rules have limited him to a squad of just 22 players, and so he has frequently had no option but to turn to the youth team for additional resources.

Last weekend, the latest debutant was Seungwoo Lee in Lleida, the sixth player to get a game at the higher level in the current campaign, along with other players that have been filling in with training sessions and in preseason games.

Here are those players’ stats for the season:

PLAYER LIGA MATCHES
CUP MATCHES
OFFICIAL DEBUT
CALL-UPS
Carles Aleñá 8 (1 goal) 2 R2 Barça B-Pobla Mafumet 10
Àlex Carbonell 1 2 (1 goal) R2 Barça B-Pobla Mafumet 5
Carles Pérez 1 2 R7 At. Llevant-Barça B 3
Theo Chendri 1 0 R18 Eldense-Barça B 2
Seungho Paik 1 0 R26 Barça B-At. Llevant 1
Seungwoo Lee 1 0 R29 Lleida Esportiu-Barça B 1

Other players, like goalkeeper Andreu Cases on four occasions, and Juanma and Ferran too, have featured in friendly games without making their official debuts. But their time will surely come one day, and it’s reassuring to know that there is so much talent waiting in the wings.
