UD Las Palmas – Barça B: fighting until the end (4-3)

At 4-0 down the B side were able to pull themselves back into the game with a goal from Dongou and two from Joan Roman

The blaugrana B side gave everything right until the very last second. The game appeared lost when Jordi Vinyals’ side were 4-0 down but a heartwarming come back of three goals in 15 minutes gave the visitors hope in the Canary Islands. Nevertheless, Barça B were unable to avoid a defeat that makes escpaing relegation from the Second Division look unlikely, even though it is still mathematically possible.

Araujo makes his mark

Former Barça B striker Sergio Araujo was the star of the first half. Vinyals’ side had begun well but a nice finish on the half turn from the Argentinian striker beat blaugrana keeper Suárez to make it 1-0. Barça had a good chance to draw level with Sergi Samper setting up Dongou. However, the Cameroonian took too long to get his shot away and the Las Palmas’ defence were able to clear the danger.
Araujo added a second to further deflate Barça B with a goal that saw him ghost away from two defenders before beating Suárez once again. Into the second half and Viera made it 3-0 to Las Palmas with a well struck shot into the top corner. It appeared all over for Vinyals’ team and even more so when Asdrúbal added a fourth for the home side.

Joan Roman gives B side hope

The blaugranes fought back with Dongou making up for his earlier miss by latching on to another great pass from Samper to beat Lizoain and pull one back for the visitors. The goal awoke the B side and Joan Roman put the frighteners on Las Palmas with two great goals to make it 4-3. The comeback was on but despite six minutes of added time, the B side were unable to gran the much needed fourth and now they remain five points from safety with just two games of the league season remaining.
