Sporting Gijón – Barça B: Another point (0-0)

The B side put in a solid performance in El Molinón to claim a deserved draw

Barça B picked up an important point away at promotion hunting Sporting Gijón to continue their improved recent form following on from the draw last weekend against Tenerife. Jordi Vinyals’ side came close to breaking the deadlock with Munir striking the woodwork in the first half and Halilovic doing the same in the second half.

The home side began the stronger of the two teams and only a good save from Suárez prevented the Asturians from going ahead. As the first half progressed Barça B came back into the game and Munir sent an effort against the crossbar, denying him what would have been one of the goals of the weekend. Lora had an opportunity for Sporting with Sandro and Munir also have chances before the half time whistle saw the side go in at the break goalless.

The woodwork again

The second half followed a similar script with the club from Gijón beginning the better, Luis Hernández and Jonny going close to opening the scoring. As in the first half, Barça were unlucky with Halilovic striking goalkeeper Cuéllar’s right hand post. Further into the second half Suárez again shone in between the posts for Barça B with an excellent save to deny Sporting striker Guerrero.

The home side, coached by former Barça defender Abelardo, chased the win in the last few minutes, but Barça held firm to claim an important ahead of the visit of Betis next weekend
