Mirandés v FC Barcelona B: Dream stays alive (2-3)

Mirandés v FC Barcelona B: Dream stays alive (2-3)

A late strike from Halilovic means escape from relegation is still a very real possibility for the reserves

Barça have won at the Municipal de Anduva and can still hope to avoid the drop to Division 2B. They overcame all kinds of adversities to get the better of Mirandés, with a Halilovic goal on 81 minutes leaving them four points adrift of the safety zone with the same number of games left to play.

There were a number of key absences from the starting line-up, but Barça B still managed to create three great chances in the first minutes, one of which was converted by Cámara, assisted Adama. That was a wake-up call for mid-table Mirandés, and their striker Urko Vera struck the post in the 26th minute as they hurled everything forward, creating particular danger in the air.

The game was wide open, with Jordi Vinyals’ struggling to hold onto the ball against the very direct approach being employed by Mirandés, who finally equalised from a corner turned goalward by Canteroa minute before the half time whistle. And one minute into the second half, there was another goal from a corner, this time for Urko Vera that made it 2-1. Adama looked to have drawn level when his shot just went over after 50 minutes, but Patric had more fortune a few moments later when the same Adama set him up brilliantly and with plenty of time left to play, it was all square at 2-2.

Both teams went for it with style, Dongou and Pedro both having pops in the 62nd minute, but the B team’s plans took a major knock when Grimaldo, who was having a fine game, went off injured. And then came the big moment. An absolute corker from Halilovic, who controlled the ball on the edge of the area and placed the ball beyond reach of home keeper Razak. Three well-earned points, and survival is still possible.
